Q: I don't see a phone number anywhere, can I call you?
A: No. We do all communication online (or, in person at the store). Send us an email anytime and we'll get back to you shortly!

Q: What are your store hours?
A: Our fabric store is open Tu-Fri 12p - 630p; Sa-Sun 10a-5p.

Q: When are your classes and how much do they cost?
A: The bulk of our classes are on weeknights 6p-10p and weekends either 10a-2p or 2p-6p. Most are 4 hours and cost $70. You can find specific days and times on our Class Schedule: http://www.theneedleshop.net/classes. PS. You'll always leave with a finished project!

Q: I love your fabrics, but can't get to your store, can you ship fabric to me?
A: Absolutely! All of our fabrics are sold through our Etsy Shop at www.theneedleshop.etsy.com The inventory is constantly rotating so check back often. We can send any amount of yardage you need to just about anywhere!

Q: How many students are in a class?
A: Only 4! It is priority at TNS for everyone to get as much attention as they need and leave knowing they've had all their questions answered. Plus, we think it's more fun when students can get to know each other a little.

Q: Do you have gift certificates?
A: Yes! You can purchase them through our Etsy store
Q: Do I have to have a machine to take a class?
A: Not at all! We have plenty of machines to go around, but feel free to bring your own if you have one. We'll figure it out for you!

Q: I want to buy a sewing machine - what kind should I get? Where?
A: Well, there is a lot to say on that topic! Here, we'll be brief in saying, if you're new to sewing you don't need to spend a ton on an expensive machine - most basic machines have the stitches you'll need to start. That said, a lot of brands have started cranking out cheaper machines since sewing's rise in popularity. Watch out for the under $100 machines at Target and Walmart as they won't be able to sew through much thickness and are generally "lightweights". Our favorite brand is Kenmore, which can be purchased at Sears. We recommend spending at least $150+ for a new machine. If you want to spend less, there are plenty of older, well maintained used machines out there. Keep an eye out for garage sales, craigslist, eBay, sewing shops, etc. - people often buy machines and never use them! Feel free to hit us up for advice on a particular machine when you find one!

Q: Where do I get my machine fixed?
A: The Singer Shop at 4914 W. Irving Park (just west of Milwaukee). (773) 545-5050. They are also very helpful with picking a new machine from the Singer line, as well as a fleet of used machines - both come with warranties.

Q: I've never used a sewing machine before. What classes do you recommend I take?
A: Sewing 101 starts at the VERY beginning - fear not! And, even if you have some experience this class will fill in all the gaps. You'll learn not only how to thread the machine and load the bobbin, but generally how your machine works which helps a ton with troubleshooting. We also attack the infamous zipper, learning a simple technique to professionally close our pillow cover. After 101, look for any classes in the "Beginner" category, listed on both the Workshops page and Class Schedule page.

Q: What does "Beginner", "Advanced Beginner", "Intermediate", etc. mean?
A: Beginner = You have completed Sewing 101 or something comparable which means you are comfortable using a sewing machine on your own. You can thread the machine and bobbin, and load a bobbin from memory. You can sew in a straight line and are aware of your 5/8" line while sewing.

Advanced Beginner = You have completed a few Beginner projects.

Intermediate = You have completed several projects including a few commercial patterns and are looking to learn more complex tricks.

Q: I signed up for a class but now I can't make it. What is your refund policy?
A: There are no refunds for missed classes. If you cancel at least 1 week in advance you may reschedule for a different session.
