Mitered Blanket - Beginner:

This technique is so versatile!  You can use it for blankets of any sort, placemats, table runners, window treatments . . . endless possibilities. A great chance to practice all the basics: seam allowances, straight lines, pivoting and more.

 


Prerequisites: Sewing 101 + practice at home or shop.
Materials List:
All materials available at TNS
1 1/4 yards fabric (back and border)
1 yard fabric (main interior)



Piped Pillow - Advanced Beginner:

Piping could possibly be the coolest thing ever. Take your pillows up a notch!

 

This class will cover how to create you're own piping then apply it to a knife edge pillow. Also included, the sometimes tricky, but always worth it - lapped zipper application.

 

 


Prerequisites: Sewing 101 + 2 other classes + more pillows made at home or shop. 101 style pillow should be down pat.
Materials List:
All materials available at TNS
Any square or rectangular pillow insert
1/2 - 1 yard fabric, depending on size of insert
1/2 yard fabric for piping
2 1/2 yards cotton cording
Zipper (same length as bottom of insert)



Placemats & Napkins - Beginner:

We have re-launched our Placemats & Napkins class with a more beginner-friendly set of techniques!
 

Still super cute and functional, this project will give us some great practice with measuring and cutting evenly as well as working with interfacing, hemming and top stitching.

We'll make a set of 4 reversible mats and 4 napkins.

 

 


Prerequisites: Sewing 101 + practice at home or shop.
Materials List:
All materials available at TNS
For set of 4 placemats:

1 yard fabric for front of mats
1 yard fabric for back of mats
1 1/4 yard fabric for napkins

1 yard Pellon 50 interfacing
**Quilt weight fabric is recommended for this project**



Cafe Curtains - Beginner:

The curtain continuum is wide, but we'll start you on the super easy end with this adorable pair of cafe curtains. Typically hung in the middle of a window, these will allow plenty of light, but provide privacy.

 

We'll cover a very cool technique on how to match images when sewing panels together as well as hemming, fullness and more.

 

And, going 2 times through the process will help cement the skills. Perk up the house while practicing lots of sewing basics!

3 1/2 yards quilt weight fabric with repeating image.



Mitt & Potholder - Intermediate:

New to the roster is Mitt & Potholder. Sounds like a buddy movie, doesn't it?

 

This little duo will be a great stocking stuffer or house warming gift and will get you acquainted with Insul-Brite to protect you from the heat.

 

The class will also cover batting and quilting, fusible thread and bias tape binding - a lot of cool tricks.

 


Prerequisites: Sewing 101 + at least 2 other projects + practice.
Materials List:

3/8 yard of 2 fabrics
3/8 yard Insul-Brite (part of kit)
3/8 yard cotton batting (part of kit)
1 package double fold bias tape (1/2" finished)



Floor Cushion - Beginner:

A simplified box style, this project will show you an easy, no-zipper process to cover all sorts of cushions. In class we'll work on a 20"x20"x2" floor cushion size, addressing side panels, hemming, velcro and batting.

 


Prerequisites: Sewing 101 + practice at home or shop.

Patchwork Pillow - Advanced Beginner:

Here's our intro to some basic quilting techniques.

We'll be covering rotary cutting, dealing with batting. how to line up seams and much more!

 


Prerequisites: Sewing 101 + 2 other classes + practice!
Materials List:

18" pillow insert
1/4 yard fabric x 4 fabrics
5/8 yard cotton batting
5/8 yard muslin or scrap fabric
1/2 yard fabric for back.



Box Cushion - Intermediate:

One of the most common and versatile types of cushion. Use on dining chairs, window seats, patio furniture and more! Lots of tricks to learn including, piping placement, side panels, zipper placement, etc.

Prerequisites: Sewing 101 + multiple other projects + Piped Pillow + more piped pillows for practice.

Cushion (no larger than 22"x22")
1 1/2 yards fabric (safe amount)
1/2 yard fabric for piping (must bring to class enough completed piping to go around cushion 2X)
Zipper (6" longer than back side of cushion)

We recommend Home Decor weight fabric that does not require matching.



Gum Drop Pillow - Beginner:

This Amy Butler classic has been around for quite a while, but we are asked about it so often, we decided to make it into a class! Who couldn't use a little more seating, right?

 

Learn how to work with odd shapes, heavier weight fabrics and lots and lots of polyfil! We'll also cover a nice closure hand stitch.

 


Prerequisites: Sewing 101 + practice!

Upholstery Project - Ottoman - Advanced Beginner:

This fun, simple project is going to show you a LOT about how upholstery works. Starting with a wood frame, we will construct the underpinnings layer by layer for a soft cushy ottoman, then cover it with your favorite fabric - including piping!

 


Prerequisites: Sewing 101 + Piped Pillow + practice at home or shop.

Roman Shades - Intermediate:

Roman Shades are some of the most practical window treatments you can make for yourself and a great platform for a beautiful fabric! Precision is key here, not only in sewing, but in measuring and grain. In this class we'll create a small practice shade in muslin to uncover all of the tricks and techniques to making the perfect shade.

 


Prerequisites: Sewing 101 + 2 other classes + ability to measure and sew very accurately.
Materials List:
All materials will be included in a kit for $15.



Surface Design Sampler - Any Level:

There are many, many ways to print an image. In this class we'll cover at least 4 of them.

 

Utilizing screens, stencils, blocks, tape, et al we'll move between 'stations' to get some hands on play time with each technique. We'll then print away on items brought from home - anything from aprons to bedding to wall art.

 

Leave with a whole new bag of tricks, inspired to leave no surface uncovered!
